Who I am

Dionisios Pappas is an artist based in Athens. His artistic practice focuses primarily on the use of paper as a raw material, charcoal or pencil drawings, sculptures, constructions using digital prints, and installations.

He grew up in Chalkida where he first engaged with the visual arts by attending art classes at the Art Workshop of D. Mytaras for nine years from a young age (1985-1991).

Having previously completed undergraduate and postgraduate studies in History and Archaeology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (2001/2006), he was admitted to the Athens School of Fine Arts where he studied painting in the studio of A. Antonopoulos (2012-2017), while also working with drawing, multimedia, and digital art. He graduated with honors.

He has created works in public spaces and participated in numerous group art exhibitions in Greece and abroad, including at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete, MOMus-Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki, the Museum of the City of Athens, Museo d’arte Contemporanea della Sicilia, Independent Art Fair-Stockholm, Back to Athens 9, Herakleidon Museum, TAF_The Art Foundation, The Project Gallery, Visual Circle DL, Italian Cultural Institute-Athens, Space 52, FokiaNou Art Space, Saint of Athens, Evripidis Gallery, Platforms Project, and others.

In 2020, he was a speaker at TEDx University of Piraeus on the topic of MOMENTUM. 

He has been awarded an honorary distinction at the 8th Biennale of Art Schools of Greece (2017) and received the Art & Design award from Mad about Arts (2019).

He has worked as an associate in the Minister’s Office of Ms. L. Koniordou and Ms. M. Zorba (2018,2019)

Currently, he works at the Ministry of Culture and maintains an art studio in Koukaki –  Athens.
